ULD™ Western Regional Qualfier – Shootout At Tukwet Canyon Results

Southern California provided us some fantastic weather for our event, and the staff at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon provided us a phenomenal venue for the Shootout at Tukwet Canyon presented Short Par 4, Leupold Golf, John Daiy’s Grip It and Sip It, and Barefoot Resort & Golf.  A constant headwind kept the 400+ yard grid on the range at Morongo Golf Club from being tested. But, an awesome group of hitters ranging in age from 11 years to 77, put on show for those in attendance. Proving that Long Drive is a family sport, we had husband and wife, father and son, and grandfather and son participation. 

Hitters in Open Women’s, Open Men’s, Senior Men’s, Super Senior Men’s, 70+ Men’s, Youth male, Junior Male, and Military / Veteran divisions punched their tickets to the ULD™ World Championship at Barefoot Resort & Golf in Myrtle Beach, SC August 16 & 17. The competition was tight across the field.

The Open Men’s division had fourteen battling for the top spot. Several hitters purchased extra sets to try to take down eventual winner, Patrick Uetz from Murrieta, California. But his 341 yard drive in his second set of six balls stood the test. Aaron Hoffman was second followed by Tyler Barnes and Chad Schryer. See the final results below.

Junior hitter, Alex Bunting, will be representing in the ULD™ Worlds in the Junior Male division in August.  Doing double duty, Alex held his own against the strong field of Open hitters finishing tenth in that division as well. With a little coaxing, Alex’s 77 year old Grandfather, Donald Bunting, entered the competition and made long driving a family affair. The elder Bunting also transferred the ULD™ Worlds in the 70+ division that is sometimes light-heartedly referred to as the “Fossil” division.

Senior Men’s division, hitter, Paul Cleary was longest of the day overall with a drive of 342 yards. That bomb sent Paul to the ULD™ Worlds where he will be a strong contender for the title.

Good news for West Coast hitters! There will be at least one ULD™ operating in California for the 2019/20 season.
